I have written a list of foods for harder erection, and it is time for another post for more sperm.
This is a long article and I will split it into two parts:
- List of essential nutrients that increase sperm count (this page)
- List of foods to increase sperm count (you can find the link at the bottom)
Sperm is the key to pregnancy. Even if the female egg is ready, fertilization is not possible without healthy sperm that travels through the cervix.
Sperm needs nutrient rich medium for them to survive, move, and stay active. In order to increase the active sperm count, it is believed that enhancing semen quality and volume is beneficial to sperm.
Other than semen, the male hormone, testosterone also plays an important role in male fertility. Testosterone act as the trigger for sperm production and a lot of body regulating functions. You should really take care of the testosterone level in your body.
You have to know that sperm formation takes almost three months, it will take at least this amount of time before reaping the benefits of a nutrient supplementation program.
Essential nutrients that help increasing sperm count
Vitamin C protects sperm from undergoing oxidative reaction from free radicals. These attacks may cause DNA damage within sperm.
It also prevents sperm from sticking together, so the sperm motility can be increased for better chance of pregnancy.
It is shown that more intake of vitamin C is able to improve 30% sperm motility and reduced number of abnormal sperm.
Vitamin E is the fertility vitamin because it corrects the functioning of the endocrine glands (regulates the overall health of our body). You should not ignore the benefits of Vitamin E.
Vitamin B complex
Our nervous system requires vitamin B to maintain a healthy state. It is also needed by our sperm because deficiency of vitamin B12 tends to lower sperm count and its motility.
Selenium is very important in the production of sperm and testosterone. Almost half of the selenium in our body is stored in the testicles and the seminal ducts.
If selenium level is not sufficient, the produced sperm tends to have less motility because the tail are not well formed. These sperm are less active and are not able to swim rapidly.
Zinc plays a role in many aspect in reproduction. It is found in semen, sperm and testosterone. Zinc is required by men for sperm formation, sperm motility and hormone metabolism.
Infertile men usually have their body zinc level lower than normal. Their testosterone level are also lower.
Intake of zinc increases both sperm count and sperm motility. It is important for the health of reproductive organs and the prostate gland.
Folic acid is another essential nutrient to DNA formation and the creation of sperm. According to the journal Fertility and Sterility, in a paper published on March 2002, a Dutch research group reveals that men with fertility problems are able to receive a 74% increase of normal sperm count after a 26 week test of taking 5mg folic acid and 66mg zinc sulfate.
Folic acid has to be taken together with zinc, because intake of either nutrient only has no significant enhancement to sperm production.
Motility of sperm about leaving our body is determined by the level of carnitine in semen and sperm. They have a direct correlation. Sperm gain motility in an environment with more carnitine. Instead, the overall quality of sperm are poor if there are not enough carnitine.
L-arginine is found with high amount in the head of sperm. It is an amino acid essential to sperm formation.
Adequate amount of L-arginine improve sperm count and sperm motility. It is also beneficial to sexual desire, erection hardness and ejaculation.
I have another article which talks about L-arginine. Kindly move your step to learn more about L-arginine.
Omega 3 fatty acids
A research team in the Harvard University successfully correlated the intake of Omega 3 in food and sperm count.
They showed that men eating foods rich in polyunsaturated fats (omega 3 fatty acids) are more likely to have increased sperm count than men who intake a lot of saturated fats in their diet.
Before moving to the next page for the list of foods that are rich in the above nutrients, stop and think:
What is the amount of foods I have to eat every day so that I can intake enough nutrients for more sperm?
If you are unsure, don’t worry. I don’t know the exact amount either!
Performer5 with Vit5What I know is that the amount will be huge. I actually go for an alternative route that saves my time: dietary supplements.
I know a herbal pill that provides all the nutrients for producing sperm and semen. It is called Performer5 with Vit5.
